Zacapa Premium Rum

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Diageo. All opinions are 100% mine.

Have you ever tried premium dark rum? I am not a big beer fan, so most of the alcohol I consume is either hard liquor or something smooth.  Zacapa premium rum is smooth with notes of honey and butterscotch. This is a unique aged rum. The process of which it is made, is  very unique, and so is it's history.

Zacapa

In 1976, in a small town in eastern Guatemala, is where this rum was created.  The area around this  town, Zacapa, is perfect for cultivating sugar cane, the land has volcanic and acidic soils, and prolonged bursts of sunshine rolling among the hills. Most rums are born from molasses, however, Zacapa premium rum is born from virgin sugar cane honey.

The aging process is unique to this particular region. Sitting 2,300 meters above sea level, are the magnificent Quetzaltenango Highlands,  which has cool mountain air to slow the aging process, creating a very unique flavor.  Based on a process to age sherry,  derived from the Spaniards over 500 years ago,the unique Sistema Solera, making every ounce of the Zacapa rum pass through  several casks that previously housed American whiskey, fine wines and delicate sherry.  All this is done is one of the worlds largest  ageing facilities, the House Above the Clouds.
